John Keats Primary Free School – London (UK)
The John Keats Primary Free School in South Bermondsey, London, is located on the two lower floors of a newly built block of flats. The pre-school opened in September 2018 and teaches up to 420 children under the age of six. Intelligent building automation is provided by a KNX system, while occupancy detectors from B.E.G. are used for needs-based lighting control.
The super-flat PD11 detector was used in the classrooms and offices, including the director's office. The detectors in the classrooms are operated in semi-automatic mode. The PD4 KNX-K was selected for the corridors of the school, which run the full length of both floors. The PD4 KNX-K was developed to cover long corridors. Thanks to the sophisticated arrangement of the sensors under the lens, it has an elongated detection area that has to be aligned with the corridor during installation.
When using B.E.G. KNX detectors, school staff can manually override the automatic control and dim the lighting for presentations or films, for example, or switch it off completely. In unused rooms and areas, the lighting is switched off by the system when movement is no longer detected. All this results in automatic, energy-efficient lighting control.
